3rd graders did a fun addition to their animal camouflage research! The website we used was tricky to work with but here are a few finished examples:
Abbie
Well, the next two weeks are MAP testing for 3rd & 4th graders. They have been practicing on their Chromebooks in computer lab and should be confident on using all those tools to help solve problems!
2nd graders have just learned to copy & paste. They did a great job sorting push and pull pictures into the correct columns. They will practice again next week. 1st graders recently created a document based on a story we watched called "Elephants Can Paint too". They also have been playing clock games to practice telling time. K recently learned a new math game in which they caused an egg to change all the way into a butterfly by solving addition problems correctly. They really enjoyed it! They have also been working on getting further along on their learning path on ABC Mouse. com which they always enjoy! February already?!
4th graders have added a couple of items to their Google Drive--an animated "movie" and a spreadsheet. They can always use the computer lab website to log in to Google Classroom from home to show you their work! 3rd graders did some research on the topic of gravity and worked on a Google Slides presentation to show their learning! I think the slide transitions were the most fun for them! As with 4th grade, they can log on their Google account from home to share their work. 2nd graders completed a habitat unit that we really enjoyed. We had a very difficult project to show some of our learning. They did a good job even though we discussed how it was a bit frustrating. 1st graders have been doing a variety of math, reading and science games. They also typed their first document which you can see on display in the hallway at the first grade music program next month. Kindergartners have been keyboarding! They are able to find all the alphabet letters and type them. They also learned how to use online tools to create a picture. We really had fun with the symmetry tool on ABCya Paint. First graders working on the Hour of Code! They did a great job programming those Angry Birds to get the Pig!
Wow! I can't believe how fast the year is flying by and that it's already almost time for Thanksgiving break!
4th grade has already completed their digital citizenship unit and has been doing a few assignments through my Wolab Google Classroom that they joined. One of these was to research the origins of their family last name to help us remember at Thanksgiving that all of our families, unless Native American, originally came here from somewhere else. Students really enjoyed finding out their countries. 3rd grade has been concentrating on keyboarding skills. This week, they are finding out what "personification" is and completing a Thanksgiving Turkey personification poem generator. There was quite a bit to this, as they had to complete the text boxes, generate the poem, copy it, then paste it into a Word document to continue working on it! 2nd grade has alternated playing a variety of games, and either working on a document that they download and complete, or opening and completing a new blank document. They are getting pretty good at this! 1st grade has recently started playing a game called Teach Your Monster to Read. They have learned how to log in with a username and password! They really enjoy this educational game which works on letters, sounds and reading all while having fun! Kindergarten has learned a lot about using their computers and have learned a variety of games. Their most recent game is a fun and educational game called ABCMouse. They love earning tickets for completing games, puzzles, coloring pages, books and more! I am looking forward to doing the Hour of Code in December with all my classes. The Hour of Code is a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics. Try it--it's fun! https://code.org/learn Wow, only 20 school days left this year! 3rd and 4th graders are finished with the MAP test (yay!) We practiced using the online tools quite a bit in computer lab and I think it paid off in their ability to maneuver around and use the testing site with ease.
Lots of classes have upcoming field trips in May so it looks like this might be the last week that I actually see ALL my classes! 4th graders are going to get on their Google Classroom for computer lab and view and complete their assignment. 3rd graders are going to complete an "I Am" poem generator, then copy and paste it into a Word document that they can work with. 2nd graders will create a Shape Poem. 1st graders are going to learn some new games. Kindergartners will log in to their Happy Numbers account for the first time and do some excellent math activities. Should be fun! Here are just a few snapshots of the creative work that 2nd graders did this week! We used Art websites for Crayola, Lite Brite and Jackson Pollack painting.
Just a couple of items:
First, look for a permission slip for your 3rd or 4th grade girl to stay after school for a coding party! It should be a lot of fun. I'm only going to be able to take around 20 girls so please return the form to me ASAP if your student would like to attend. Second, if you are a 1st grade parent, look in the computer lab hallway for your child's first document when you come to the music program! The first three lines had sentence starters; for anything additional your student put in extra work! Feel free to take your student's work home. Well, it looks like we will be able to make it through our December school days without missing any snow days this year! 3rd grade students have been working on finishing up all their Dance Mat Typing stages as well as doing some computer programming. 2nd graders have been using a PBS kids resource called Plum Landing to explore a desert habitat. We will continue with other habitats in January. 1st grade students have been using a variety of sites to work on both reading and math skills. Kindergarten have been working on keyboarding and learning and playing on their ABCMouse accounts. Look for an email that will give you some sites to enjoy over the break with your kiddos!
Fourth graders finished up their digital citizenship unit. They then used Tux Paint to write and illustrate a Thanksgiving "Would you rather.." question. Quite a few would choose to take a bath in gravy! Come by the computer hallway to see their work when you come to the music program! This week we will investigate the country of origin of our last names and use a computer sticky note to put it on a map.
Third grade recently learned about personification and used it in a Thanksgiving poem generator. They then cut and pasted their poems into a Word document where they inserted a picture to go with it. Second grade also created a Thanksgiving document and learned to use Word Art and text boxes along with their prior knowledge of inserting pictures. First grade used their knowledge about bats to complete an animal study. We got to x-ray a bat online and see how it has fingers and thumbs in it's wing membranes! Kindergarten has been using Keyboarding Zoo to find and type all their letters on the keyboard. They wear a purple and a blue wristband to help them remember to use both hands. They are also enjoying making progress on their ABC Mouse accounts. |
